Citizenship
Awards
The Weston Education
Partnership which includes the Weston Federation of Schools launched
in January 2004. The Federation includes the 4 secondary and 2 special
schools in the town. Our schools work together to provide the highest
possible quality of education by responding to the individual needs
of learners.
This was our
very first Weston Education Partnership Young Citizens of the Year
Awards. Guest speakers for the evening included, our Town Mayor,
Councillor Astra Brand and Tracy Hayler, Chief Superintendent of
Avon and Somerset Constabulary.
In addition,
the following guests helped us celebrate our event:
-
Chris Flint
, Chair of the Federation Strategic Management Board;
-
Sue Walker,
Health & Wellbeing Co-ordinator, North Somerset LEA and
-
Judi Harper,
Executive Director - Curriculum & Entrepreneurship, Weston
College.
All of whom
kindly agreed to assist in the presentation of certificates and
awards.
A special thanks
was given to our young musicians from Worle Community School for
entertaining us on arrival with their wonderful music.
This was a really
important event for Weston-super-Mare. We wanted to recognise and
reward young people who through their acts of citizenship make a
valuable contribution to their community. The most exciting thing
was that the students who collected awards and certificates on the
evening were just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more young
people out there making a real difference to the lives of others,
both in our town and beyond. We must remember that these young people
are Weston's future and we should be doing everything to recognise
their achievements so that others are inspired to follow in their
footsteps.
