Aiming Higher for Weston and North Somerset Students

Some 70 or more of the most able Weston super Mare students from our 11-16 schools are taking A/S level courses in Critical Thinking this year, at least one year ahead of the usual time. They are part of a wider group of approximately 250 from across North Somerset who are taking the exams in May of 2005 as part of their school curriculum. They are all meeting at the Winter Gardens on Friday 22nd April for a conference, led by their Chief Examiner and another of the standard Critical Skills texts Dr Roy Van Den Brink-Budgen. The conference will see Dr Brink-Budgen lead them through exercises in preparation for their exams. It will also feature a unique joint session where our 15-16 year olds will work with their 17-19 counterparts in discussion and problem solving activities.

Weston's Critical Skills A/S level programme is funded and organised through the Aim Higher Partnership, co-ordinated by Dr Nigel Cromey-Hawke of the Weston Education Partnership, who have also arranged the conference. North Somerset and especially Weston super Mare's young students are definitely Aiming Higher in their qualifications.

Best of luck in their examinations.
