Education Partnership Strands
ITT
Strand
The ITT strand
will promote a federation culture that nurtures staff collaboration
and allows increased and meaningful pathways for professional growth
and development.
Through collaborative working and a focus upon teacher training, inquiry
into innovative solutions, systematic examination of learning theory,
learning styles, preferences and pedagogy, we will deliver a teaching
process more relevant to the needs of the 21st century student and
staff learners. High quality learners on the staff of our schools
will promote high quality learning within them.
We anticipate the benefits for all adult learners in the federation
to be
- Reduction
in the isolation of teachers
- Increased
commitment to the vision, values and goals of the WEP
- Shared responsibility
for the total development of the students and collective responsibility
for students' access
- Powerful
learning that defines good teaching and classroom practice
- Higher likelihood
that teachers will be well informed, professionally renewed and
inspired to motivate students
- More satisfaction,
higher morale and lower absence rates
- Commitment
to making significant, innovative and lasting change
We anticipate the following outcomes for pupils
- Lower rates
of absence
- Improved
punctuality
- Reduced behavioural
difficulties
- Fewer cases
of homework problems
- Wider and
increased participation in extra curricular activities
- Less discrepancy
in the attainment of pupils across subjects and schools
- Greater involvement
in community projects and voluntary activities
ICT
Strand
The ICT Strand Group has been meeting since June 2003 to plan collaborative
ICT projects which include:
- The establishment
of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) within which teachers
can plan and set on-line work for their students to complete in
school or at home. Currently four subject groups (Science, French,
ICT and Literacy) exist with colleagues from at least two schools
working together in each of these subject groups.
- A pilot
programme to determine the potential of the SW Grid for Learning
Assimilate Portal for collaborative work and for communication
across the Partnership.
- The establishment
of a baseline of ICT provision which will allow each of the schools
to fully utilise ICT to improve student achievement and staff
communication and collaboration.

CPD
Strand
The aim of having
a pro-active CPD programme will enable the federation to develop
career pathways for all its staff, whether through the High Level
Teaching Assistants route, through NCSL and then the NPQH programmes
as already mentioned, or through GNVQ and Higher Education Institutes
to provide recognised and valued accreditation. CPD areas for development
include:
- How ICT can
help in our teaching, communication and sharing of resources and
a fully integrated programme will bring with it training needs
so developing the skills teachers in the 21st century need in
the modern world.
- How we make
use of our skilled practitioners in behaviour management so that
all pupils can engage in learning and where it is seen to be cool
to achieve.
- How we develop
models of self review through peer observation and mentoring which
can be a vehicle in helping us to raise standards of our teaching
and share professional expertise with a wider audience.
- Look at providing
opportunities for action research and further accreditation through
recognised bodies.
